About Us

We are an allotment association with two sites in the West End of Glasgow, just off the Great Western Road near the Botanic Gardens. Glasgow City Council is the landlord, but day to day management is carried out by a committee of volunteers, selected annually by members at the AGM

The Julian Avenue site is the newer. and more developed, of the two sites. It has entrances from Julian Avenue and from Mirlees Drive. It has tarmac paths, a green cabin with toilet facilities and stand pipes to provide water. The land has been used as allotments from before WW2. You can click here to see a history of the land forming the site, or here to see the most recent Council map of the site showing plot organisation.

The Kirklee site has been used as allotments, with a few interludes or gaps, since WW1. It is slightly less developed than the Julian Avenue site, having grass paths and composting toilets. It is on the banks of the Kelvin and not surrounded by houses so it is possible to undertake activities like bee keeping on the site which are not really suitable at Julian Avenue. You can click here to read a report of its origins, ownership, successes and trials, or here to see the most recent council map of the site showing plot organisation.

During 2024 a post graduate student from the University of Glasgow used the Kirklee site site as part of her study on pollinator diversity. You can click here to see the report she presented at the AGM in November.

Each site has an annual Open Day when anyone who is interested can come wander round the site, find out about allotments, see how plots are cultivated, buy fresh produce produced on the site and enjoy activities.

The proposed Open Day dates for 2026 are:

Julian Site June 20th, Kirklee Site August 22
